“When you photograph people in color,
you photograph their clothes.
But when you photograph people in black and white,
you photograph their souls!”
-Ted Grant
So much of black and white photography is personal preference. We've compiled a list of our personal perspectives regarding this classic style of photography.
From Alicia:
Black and white is sexy and raw. It's emotion. It's timeless.
My go-to black and white actions are from Florabella Collection and Seasalt and Co.

From Kelsey:
I love BW portraits with soft shadows and perfect light. I absolutely love converting to BW when there are little pockets of light highlighted in the image.

From Alana:
I love a good, gritty, high contrast black & white, but I also love a delicate, high-key black and white. Black & white helps convey emotion, because you're not focusing on color... you're focusing on mood.
I made my own presets for black and white photography. One thing to consider is how the underlying colors will affect the image, like reds and greens.
You can find this free Lightroom preset here! Of course, you'll have to adjust for exposure and definitely play with dodging and burning.
